The Greater Orlando Builders Association (GOBA) Foundation Donates $40,000
to Five Local Charitable Organizations
ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 17, 2018) - The GOBA Foundation is a 5013c organization dedicated to raising funds for children and families in need. Since its charter in 1985, the Foundation has made donations totaling more than $1 million to youth-related charities and scholarships across Central Florida.
Throughout 2018, the Foundation supported five focus charities: New Hope for Kids, Elevate Orlando, Quest Camp Thunderbird, The Jeremiah Project and Voices for Osceola’s Children for a total of $40,000 in annual donations. Each charity received a mid-year donation of $4,000 to assist with summer programs. A second donation of an additional $4,000 was presented to each charity during the annual holiday celebration for year-end needs.
“As contributing members of the Central Florida home building industry, we realize that our success is not solely dependent upon our own hard work and talents. It is also a reflection of the dynamic community in which we live and work. As the charitable arm of GOBA, our mission is to provide, in perpetuity, a vehicle for us to repay our community,” said Chassity Vega, Greater Orlando Builders Association CEO.
Although the Foundation’s support is available to a broad base of worthy causes in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties, two specific areas of particular interest have been targeted; youth and education.
Additionally, the Foundation was able to give back to the community through back-to-school initiatives with a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Eatonville, Fla. to host a backpack drive. More than 200 children were able to select a backpack from an array of colors while enjoying pizza, ice cream and a DJ. During this time, GOBA also received an urgent request for assistance from the Puerto Rican community displaced in Central Florida due to Hurricane Maria. Thousands of students would be starting school soon and did not have the necessary resources. Thanks to the generosity of GOBA members, more than $2,500 was raised to purchase additional school supplies to aid these children.
In 2018, The Foundation also awarded $19,500 in scholarships funds to 15 deserving students through its ongoing partnership with the University of Central Florida (UCF).
Funds are raised by GOBA primarily through two signature events, Nine and Wine and Charity Clay Shoot, with all proceeds going directly to the Foundation. In 2018, these events raised approximately $30,000.
“We wouldn’t be able to accomplish our goals without the dedicated Board of Trustees, members and GOBA staff liaisons. We look forward to another successful year of supporting and giving back to the children and young adults throughout Central Florida, “ continued Vega.
